Here is a fantastic first bike for young children (approx 2 - 4yrs) the Netti - My First Bike.
Unlike tri-cycles or conventional bikes with training wheels (which really only teaches you how to ride at a 12º lean) the Netti My First Bike teaches balance first so learning to ride is easier.
